Welcome to

Voyageurs National Park

Tucked along the border of northern Minnesota and Canada, Voyageurs National Park is a labyrinth of waterways, islands, and forested peninsulas that embody the rugged spirit of the North Woods. Named for the French-Canadian fur traders who once paddled these routes, the park is a landscape shaped by glaciers, teeming with lakes that shimmer beneath vast skies and northern lights.

Spanning over 200,000 acres, Voyageurs is one of the few U.S. national parks best explored by boat. Its four major lakes—Rainy, Kabetogama, Namakan, and Sand Point—connect in a network that allows travelers to move through pristine wilderness much like the voyageurs did centuries ago. The quiet rhythm of paddles dipping into mirrored water and the haunting calls of loons define the experience here.

In summer, the park is alive with houseboats, kayakers, anglers, and campers exploring hidden coves and remote islands. In winter, it transforms into a world of frozen lakes, snowmobile trails, and ice fishing, with the occasional appearance of the aurora borealis dancing across the subarctic night sky. Voyageurs remains a sanctuary for solitude, reflection, and the elemental beauty of Minnesota’s border country.
